Touring Taiwan’s Medtech Sector:
High Quality Adronic Argus Endoscopes

We visited both large and small medtech companies on our tour to preview the Medicare Taiwaninternational medical & healthcare exhibition, and Adronic, headed by founder John Tseng, is one of the smaller ones. Nevertheless, the company is able to manufacture high-end endoscopes that rival the big names in the field. With only 25 employees, Adronic has developed and manufactures a variety of industrial, aviation, veterinary, and of course, clinical endoscopes.
The company was initially founded by John in 1987 as a mold tooling factory. He gained professional expertise while working in Germany and wanted to bring some of that country’s famous approach to engineering to Taiwan. Hence the slogan “German Quality | Made in Taiwan” on their literature.
When we first glanced at some of the scopes on display, we thought they are made to examine Godzilla, but these are made for inspecting the insides of airplanes. Adronic focused first on industrial and aviation scopes, later moving to veterinary and clinical applications.
 

 

Now the company is able to produce LED illuminated fiberoptic clinical endoscopes down to 1.9 mm outside diameter. They have been able to do this thanks to the high end CCD cameras that are being employed in their products.
Selling under the brand name Argus, the company offers cart based systems for hospitals, as well as all-in-one portable endoscope systems that can be carried by doctors that do home or clinic visits. There is also an endoscope camera that can be plugged into a computer USB port, offering a cheap solution for many applications.
 
Adronic has also developed its own hand-held LED light source that uses standard 3.7V lithium-ion batteries, making it portable and easy to use anywhere. The light source works with most endoscope types, including Olympus, STORZ, Wolf, and ACMI.
The firm is now working on making and unbreakable fiberoptic scope. Currently, scopes that are difficult to damage have a camera built into the tip, foregoing the fiberoptics. The problem is that they are larger and their image quality and optical characteristics are generally inferior. John and his company are tackling this challenge to create a high quality scope that can take a beating.
The company is ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified.
